adminOn April 20, 2020, a tragic hit-and-run occurred on Wrangleboro Road in Galloway Township, resulting in the death of 48-year-old Janel Bembry and serious injuries to 61-year-old Gail Schifris. The incident unfolded when Keneet Camacho, 38, of Absecon, driving a Toyota Highlander, rear-ended Bembry’s Hyundai Elantra.
The collision propelled Bembry’s vehicle into the oncoming lane, leading to a head-on crash with Schifris’s Honda CRV. Camacho fled the scene but was apprehended shortly after on Great Creek Road. He was subsequently charged with aggravated manslaughter, leaving the scene of a fatal accident, assault by auto, and causing death while unlicensed or suspended. Camacho remains in custody at the Atlantic County Justice Facility, awaiting trial.
