In January 1984, 7-year-old Gary Grant Jr. left his Atlantic City home, telling his mother he had an “appointment.” Two days later, his body was discovered in a vacant lot just two blocks away. He had been bludgeoned to death, with a metal pipe found nearby believed to be the murder weapon.
Gary’s father, Gary Grant Sr., a detective with the Atlantic City Police Department, was among those who searched for his missing son. The case has remained open, with investigators revisiting evidence over the years. In 2016, Grant Sr. found an old audiotape containing a 1986 call from an unidentified man claiming responsibility for the murder and taunting authorities.
Despite these leads, no one has been charged in connection with Gary’s death. The Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office continues to seek information, urging anyone with knowledge about the case to come forward.
