An off-duty Atlantic City police sergeant, Michael Camp, 44, was charged with driving under the influence and reckless driving after a rear-end collision on February 9, 2020, in Ventnor, New Jersey. The incident occurred when Camp’s vehicle struck another car stopped at a red light on Atlantic Avenue. Although the impact pushed the other vehicle into Atlantic City, the crash was determined to have taken place within Ventnor’s jurisdiction
Responding officers conducted a field sobriety test, during which Camp attributed his performance to prior injuries and cold weather. A subsequent breathalyzer test indicated a blood alcohol concentration exceeding the legal limit. Camp was taken into custody and later released to a friend.
The Atlantic City Police Department has acknowledged the incident, stating that it is gathering information related to the case. Camp’s employment status with the department has not been publicly disclosed. The case is proceeding through the Ventnor Municipal Court system.
