In September 2020, Atlantic City commemorated the life of Micah “Dew” Tennant, a 10-year-old tragically killed during a shooting at a high school football game in November 2019. On what would have been Dew’s 11th birthday, the Maryland Avenue Playground was officially renamed Micah “Dew” Tennant Park. The dedication ceremony featured music, singing, and heartfelt speeches, reflecting Dew’s vibrant spirit and his dream of becoming a DJ.
The initiative to rename and renovate the park was led by Atlantic City Mayor Marty Small. The project included plans for murals and splash pads, aiming to create a space that Dew would have been proud of. Mayor Small emphasized the importance of the park as a community gathering place and a lasting tribute to Dew’s memory.
Five years later, Dew’s legacy continues to influence the community. In November 2024, his mother, Angela Tennant, shared a video of Dew reciting a line from the movie “Friday,” which garnered significant attention and heartfelt responses. She expressed gratitude for the ongoing support, stating, “Thank you to the community for their continuous love and support.”
Additionally, Angela Tennant has been working to establish “Dew Better Mental Health,” a nonprofit organization aimed at providing mentorship and support for Black and Brown boys and young men aged 10 to 20, addressing the stigma surrounding mental health in these communities.
These efforts underscore the community’s commitment to honoring Dew’s memory and fostering positive change in his name.
