In January 2020, 24-year-old Arturo “Arty” Barrera III was tragically shot and killed in his Egg Harbor Township home. In response, his family, in collaboration with Atlantic County Crime Stoppers, announced a $10,000 reward for information leading to an arrest.
The incident occurred on January 2, 2020, when two masked individuals entered Barrera’s residence on Vermont Avenue. They confronted Barrera and another person, leading to gunfire that resulted in Barrera’s death. The second individual was unharmed.
Following an extensive investigation, authorities arrested Neco J. Pitts, 28, of Long Branch, and Leonard B. Ludwigsen Jr., 26, of Egg Harbor Township, charging them with felony murder and related offenses. The motive for the killing has not been determined.
Barrera’s family expressed their gratitude for the community’s support during this challenging time. They emphasized that the reward aims to encourage anyone with information to come forward, helping to bring closure and justice for Arty.
