On April 20, 2020, a fatal hit-and-run occurred on Wrangleboro Road in Galloway Township, New Jersey. Janel Bembry, 48, of Galloway Township, was rear-ended by a Toyota Highlander driven by Keneet Camacho, 38, of Absecon. The collision forced Bembry’s vehicle into oncoming traffic, resulting in a head-on crash with another vehicle. Bembry later died from her injuries.
Initially, Camacho was charged with leaving the scene of a fatal accident, driving while intoxicated, and driving without a license. However, further investigation led to upgraded charges of aggravated manslaughter and assault by auto. A witness reported observing a confrontation between Bembry and Camacho prior to the incident, suggesting a possible intentional act. Additionally, a 911 call from Bembry indicated she was being chased by Camacho, who was attempting to force her off the road.
Camacho was arrested and held at the Atlantic County Justice Facility. Upon release, he was required to register as a sex offender and was subject to lifetime supervision.
