In November 2019, the community mourned the loss of Micah “Dew” Tennant, a 10-year-old boy tragically shot during a high school football game in Pleasantville, New Jersey. The incident occurred on November 15, when gunfire erupted in the stands during a playoff game between Pleasantville and Camden. Micah was struck in the neck and, despite efforts, passed away five days later.
The funeral service for Micah was held on Saturday, November 23, 2019, at New Shiloh Baptist Church in Atlantic City. The community gathered to honor his life and offer support to his grieving family.
In the aftermath of this tragedy, the community sought ways to honor Micah’s memory. On what would have been his 11th birthday, September 9, 2020, the Maryland Avenue Playground in Atlantic City was officially renamed Micah “Dew” Tennant Park. The dedication ceremony featured music, singing, and heartfelt speeches, reflecting Micah’s vibrant spirit and his dream of becoming a DJ.
