Helicopters Enhance Electric Grid Resiliency in Atlantic City

Atlantic City Electric has significantly advanced its grid resiliency projects by employing helicopter technology to install hurricane-resistant transmission lines and transport construction personnel over environmentally sensitive areas. This approach minimizes environmental impact and expedites infrastructure upgrades.

In one notable project, the team utilized Sikorsky S-64 Skycranes to install steel transmission poles and remove outdated wooden poles across marshlands. This method saved approximately $2.5 million by reducing the need for extensive marshland restoration and shortened the project timeline by over a month.

These initiatives underscore Atlantic City Electric’s commitment to enhancing grid reliability and resilience against severe weather, ensuring more consistent and secure energy delivery to the region’s residents.
