On the night of January 2, 2020, 24-year-old Arturo “Arty” Barrera III was found dead from gunshot wounds inside his residence on Vermont Avenue in Egg Harbor Township, New Jersey. Authorities determined the incident to be a homicide.
After a 14-month investigation, law enforcement arrested Neco Pitts and Leonard Ludwigsen in connection with the case. Pitts admitted to participating in a plan to rob Barrera, which escalated into a fatal shooting. He was sentenced to 15 years in prison under a plea agreement, with the possibility of a reduced sentence if he cooperates further. Ludwigsen, identified as the getaway driver, is awaiting trial.
The investigation is ongoing, with authorities seeking to identify a second shooter involved in the incident. No additional arrests have been announced at this time
