In March 2018, Richard Erick McAllister, a 42-year-old English teacher at Pleasantville High School residing in Ocean City, New Jersey, pleaded guilty to conspiring to commit health care fraud. From January 2015 to April 2016, McAllister, along with co-conspirators, recruited individuals to obtain expensive, medically unnecessary compounded medications from an out-of-state pharmacy. These medications were reimbursed by the Pharmacy Benefits Administrator for thousands of dollars per monthly supply. The scheme led to fraudulent claims totaling over $50 million, with McAllister personally receiving $456,806.23 in criminal proceeds. He was ordered to pay restitution of at least $3,428,222.97. McAllister faced a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine. Sentencing was scheduled for July 18, 2018.
