In May 2020, following a peaceful protest in Atlantic City advocating for justice for George Floyd, unrest escalated into rioting and looting. Seventeen individuals were arrested during this incident.
Subsequently, a comprehensive investigation led to charges against 95 individuals, including 13 juveniles. The majority of those charged were Atlantic City residents, with others from surrounding areas.
The Atlantic City Police Department utilized thousands of hours of video footage from public and private sources, as well as social media, to identify suspects. The public’s assistance was instrumental, with many individuals turning themselves in after recognizing images released by the police.
These events highlight the challenges faced by Atlantic City during that period and underscore the importance of community collaboration in addressing such incidents.
