In October 2019, Atlantic County Prosecutor Damon Tyner announced significant developments in two longstanding homicide investigations in Atlantic City. The cases, which had remained unsolved for over two decades, saw new charges following extensive reexaminations by law enforcement.
Case 1: Murder of Antojuan Huffin (1996)
- Victim: Antojuan Huffin, known as “Cool T,” was a 20-year-old man fatally shot on May 27, 1996, inside the Stanley Holmes Village housing project during a robbery.
- Suspects Charged:
- Lamarc Rex (37): Wanted for the murder; was 14 years old at the time of the incident.
- T.C. (40): Identified only by initials due to being a juvenile at the time; now an adult facing charges following a waiver from juvenile to adult court.
- Family Impact: Huffin left behind a 2-year-old son. His mother, Vernesta Green, expressed relief over the charges, stating, “My family has been in the dark and today we shed light.”
Case 2: Murder of Saleem Tolbert (2010)
- Victim: Saleem Tolbert was shot and killed on July 6, 2010.
- Suspect Charged:
- Lorin Wright (33): Arrested and charged with murder. At the time of his arrest, Wright was already incarcerated for the May 2017 killing of local rapper Keith Cundiff Jr.
- Family Impact: Tolbert’s mother, Sheila Harvey, expressed both joy and sorrow, stating, “I am overjoyed that an arrest has been made but I still struggle with the loss of my son.”
Prosecutor Tyner emphasized the importance of resolving cold cases, stating that unsolved investigations lead to a loss of closure for families and diminished faith in the justice system. He noted that in some instances, suspects may commit additional crimes while evading justice.
Ongoing Investigation:
Authorities continue to seek information regarding Lamarc Rex’s whereabouts. Anyone with knowledge is urged to contact the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office or local law enforcement.
Please note that legal proceedings are ongoing, and details may evolve as new information emerges.
