In December 2019, John Jacobs, 27, of Vineland, New Jersey, was arrested following the hospitalization of his two-week-old daughter, who sustained a fractured leg. Jacobs admitted to causing the injury during a diaper change. Despite the severity of the incident, he was released from custody on December 12.
A week later, Jacobs contacted a friend via video call, confessing to killing his wife, Sahlena Blackwell-Jacobs, and expressing intentions to burn the vehicle and take his own life. The friend observed Blackwell-Jacobs’ lifeless body in the back seat during the call.
Authorities located the burned vehicle in a wooded area in Williamstown, Gloucester County, with Blackwell-Jacobs’ body inside. Jacobs was subsequently arrested and charged with murder. He is currently detained pending trial. Both his infant daughter and another child are reported to be safe.
