In December 2024, a stabbing incident occurred on the 1300 block of Atlantic Avenue in Atlantic City. A 45-year-old man was injured and transported to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center with non-life-threatening wounds. A concerned citizen provided a photograph of the suspect, aiding the Atlantic City Police Department’s investigation.
Utilizing surveillance footage and automated license plate readers, officers traced the suspect’s vehicle entering Atlantic City earlier that morning. At approximately 9:25 a.m., Officer La’Quay Green Sr. observed the vehicle exiting the city on Route 30 and initiated a stop. The driver, identified as Jamil Anderson, 35, was arrested without incident. A knife believed to be used in the stabbing was recovered from the vehicle.
Anderson was charged with aggravated assault, unlawful possession of a weapon, and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose. During a court appearance, he inquired about the necessity of a detention hearing, expressing a lack of prior offenses. Judge Richard Russell explained that the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office had filed for detention, rendering Anderson ineligible for release at that time.
