In June 2024, 53-year-old Kani Peng of Egg Harbor Township was arrested on charges related to operating an illegal brothel in Southern Ocean County. The arrest followed a comprehensive nine-month investigation conducted by the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office, Barnegat Township Police Department, and Stafford Township Police Department.
The investigation focused on two establishments: Rainbow Spa in Barnegat Township and Bay Spa in Stafford Township. Authorities discovered that women residing at these spas were engaging in sexual activities in exchange for payment. Peng, identified as the owner and manager of both facilities, was frequently observed supplying necessary items such as food, clothing, and cleaning supplies.
On June 19, 2024, law enforcement executed search warrants at both spas and Peng’s residence in Egg Harbor Township. The searches yielded evidence confirming that prostitution was occurring at the spas and that Peng was aware of and involved in these illegal activities. Peng was taken into custody at the Stafford Township spa and processed on charges including promoting prostitution, maintaining a nuisance (specifically, a house of prostitution), financial facilitation, and engaging in prostitution.
The charges are merely accusations, and all defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
